Breakfast. This is one of the most outstanding adventures! Guide will take you to the city of Latacunga, capital of the Cotopaxi province. From here, you’ll make a detour in order to visit the Indian village of Pujilí. This small town has a very nice historical center with colonial houses with typical Spanish style indoor courtyards, churches and cobblestone streets. On Wednesdays and Sundays, there is a busy colorful market. Lunch. The highway continues going up the mountain range with a series of magnificent peaks and mountains with agricultural terraces made by the Indians many centuries ago.
About 14km north of Zumbahua, the famous volcanic-crater lake of Quilotoa is a gasp-inducing sight. A lookout on the precipitous crater rim offers stunning views of the mirror-green lake 1,312 feet below and the snowcapped peaks of Cotopaxi and Southern Iliniza in the distance. When you ask the locals how deep it is, they inevitably say it has no bottom, which seems entirely plausible given its awesomeness (the geologists say 820 feet). Return to Quito in the afternoon. Free dinner. Lodging in Quito.
